Catie Wilson and John Thomas Named BHS Students of the Month for February

Bridgeport High School Principal Mark DeFazio has announced that Catie Wilson and John Thomas have been named Students of the Month for February. 
 
Wilson is the daughter of Shawn and Nicole Wilson of Bridgeport. She is a member of Bridgeport United Methodist Church and an active participant in the BUMC Youth Group. Over the past four years at BHS, she has been involved in a variety of activities while taking AP and college courses. She earned her academic letter her freshman year and academic lamps her sophomore, junior and senior years. She is a member of the National Honor Society and has been a member of the Student Council executive Board all four years, serving as historian her junior  year and currently as the student body vice president. 
 
In addition to student government, Wilson has been a member of the Drug-Free Club, Key Club and was honored to be a part of the BHS Homecoming Court her freshman and senior years. She has volunteered for numerous community service activities. Her favorites include serving meals at the Clarksburg Mission, nursing home visits and shopping for Angel Tree children. 
 
Wilson attended iBelieve leadership conference after her sophomore year and was elected by the GFWC Woman's Club of Bridgeport to attend the 2017 West Virginia Rhododendron Girls State, where she held multiple offices and received the Outstanding Citizens Award. 
 
Even though she has dealt with two serious knee surgeries along the way, Wilson has had the opportunity to contribute athletically for the Indians. For her efforts, she has received many accolades. As a four-year letterman on the BHS Soccer Team, she received the Ultimate Teammate Award and served as captain. She has been named to the All-County, All-Conference, All-Region and both the first and second team All-State teams. She was named the Big Ten Defender of the Year and selected to participate in the North-South All-Star game. As a three-year letterman on the BHS Swim Team, she has been named to the All-County and All-Conference teams, receiving high point honors at the County Championship, and has been a state meet qualifier in multiple events. With her final season still yet to come, Wilson has been a three-year letterman of the BHS Track Team and has received multiple All-State recognitions. She is a two-time state champion in the 4x400, state runner-up in the 4x200 and individually at the state track meet she has two top-five finshes in the 400 and a seventh place finish in the 200. She especially values all the teammates and friendships that have developed from the various teams. 
 
In her free time, Wilson enjoys skiing, boating and time with her family and friends. Following graduation, she plans to attend West Virginia University to initially pursue a degree in exercise physiology with the ultimate goal of receiving a doctorate in physical therapy. 
 
Thomas is the son of Anthony and Malissa Thomas. He has played football for four years at BHS and has been named first team All-Conference for two years and received a special honorable mention at the All-State level as a defensive lineman his senior year. He also participated in wrestling for two years, the media department for two years and participated in the BHS Theater production of "Headache." He has been a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, the Humane Socity Club and DECA. He has made the perfect or superior honor roll all four years at BHS. Thomas regularly attends Simpson Creek Baptist Church, is a volunteer at the Clarksburg Mission and participated in Shop for Tots. He plans to attend West Virginia University in the fall, where he will study exercise physiology.
