City Clerk Andrea Kerr: City Web Site Has New Look, Better Functionality

By Julie Perine on July 30, 2015 via Connect-Bridgeport.com

The City of Bridgeport Web site has a new look and better functionality.

City Clerk Andrea Kerr said the new site - www.bridgeportwv.com - was published just a couple weeks ago, incorporating the city’s signature red, black and white colors, rather than the blue and orange previously used.

“We gave the site a facelift and made it easier to access,” she said. “The old site wasn’t really functional and a lot of the forms were outdated. Now, those forms are more accurate and are easier to read and print out.”

Many residents do not realize that those forms, including building permits and various business documents, are available at their fingertips.

“Those forms, along with information people might need, are right there. They can fill them out and bring them in to make payments. That will save them time,” she said. “We also have various maps, such as precinct maps  - which are all color coded - so residents can figure out what precinct they vote in. We also have street maps and zoning maps.”

That information, as well as a Home Rule Application and sign up procedures for water and sewer service, is available under a tab titled “My City.” Another tab titled “Doing Business with the City” includes much information for present and potential business owners.
“Any forms they would need as far as taxes and licensing and any economic business incentives we offer are included,” Kerr said.

The site also lists information for City Council members, City Council meeting agenda and minutes, city boards and commissions and various city departments, from parks and recreation to police and fire to library.

The site also syncs with active Nixle alerts, which can range from street closings to emergency information. An events calendar - which correlates to the Connect-Bridgeport calendar - includes city events, such as this Saturday’s community yard sale and the upcoming National Night Out, which is slated for Tuesday, Aug. 4.  Various other events relating to city schools, clubs and organizations are also included. The new site also includes recent Connect-Bridgeport stories and a link to the site to keep residents updated on all news relevant to the city.

Though the site is new, Kerr said she has already received much positive feedback. Included is feedback with regard to a survey posted inquiring about residents’ interest in paying utility bills online. That survey is thus far resulting in nearly a unanimous “yes” vote.

“I’ve received a lot of responses so I know people are using the new site,” she said.

Kerr invites residents to contact her with any problems or questions.

“There are still some kinks to be worked out, so don’t hesitate to give me a call,” she said.
