City Resident who was Former Teacher, High School Coach, Civic Leader, Richard S. Bailey, Passes at 74

Richard S. Bailey, 74, of Bridgeport, passed away Sunday, October 10, 2021, in the United Hospital Center. He was born in Clarksburg on November 29, 1946, a son of the late Troy S. and Mary J. (Weis) Bailey.
 
Richard is survived by his sister, Kathy Sandy and her husband Ben, of Bridgeport; two nephews, Chris Sandy of Bridgeport; and Chad Sandy and his wife Lindsay of Charlotte, NC; a great-nephew, Hunter Sandy, and a great-niece, Gracie Sandy; and several cousins.
 
Richard was a 1964 graduate of Notre Dame High School, a 1969 graduate of Fairmont State College, and earned his Master’s in Education in 1973 from West Virginia University. He was a teacher and coach for the Harrison County Board of Education, serving at Norwood Junior High School, Lincoln High School, and retiring from Bridgeport High School.
 
He loved West Virginia University and Fairmont State University sports. He served as the public address announcer for many years for the Cougars of Lincoln High School and the Indians of Bridgeport High School. He was a member of the Bridgeport Jaycees, the Bridgeport Kiwanis, a JCI Senator, and served on the West Virginia State Civilian Conservation Corps Museum Board. He was a member of All Saints Catholic Church.

In honoring Richard’s wishes, he will be cremated and no public services will be held. He will be buried in Bridgeport Cemetery.
