In every color of the rainbow, thousands of candy-filled Easter eggs will be up for grabs at the annual Bridgeport Parks and Recreation Easter Egg Hunt.

The egg-finding activity will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 27 at Bridgeport Recreation Complex. The event will once again feature special guest, The Easter Bunny, who will be available for photos and meet and greets prior to and following the egg hunt.

Bridgeport Parks and Recreation Director Joe Shuttleworth said he expects about 200 area children to take part in the holiday activity.

“It’s geared towards preschoolers,” he said. “We normally have two areas set up – one for 4- and 5-year-olds and one for 3 and under.”

About 3,500 candy-filled plastic eggs will be scattered throughout the multipurpose field, as well as a couple dozen golden eggs, which can be redeemed for special prizes.

Shuttleworth said he's always referred to the event as more of an egg dash, than egg hunt, as the colorful eggs are in plain sight and the kids are turned loose to gather as many as they can until they are all gone.

Children should bring their own baskets or bags for the hunt. They may keep all the eggs they find, as well as the candy prizes inside. Bridgeport Parks & Recreation purchases pre-filled eggs, a service of a sheltered workshop labor force which utilizes handicapped workers.
