Clarksburg Native, Liberty Alumna Stephanie Bond New Director of West Virginia Probation Services

Stephanie Bond will be the new Director of Probation Services starting July 24, Supreme Court Chief Justice Allen H. Loughry II announced Wednesday, June 28.
 
Bond has been the director of the executive branch’s Division of Juvenile Services since July 1, 2014, after serving as interim director beginning in February 2013. She previously served as Superintendent of the Kenneth “Honey” Rubenstein Juvenile Center in Davis.
 
Bond replaces Mike Lacy, who will retire June 30 after spending 15 years as director and 30 years total working in the Probation Services Division.
 
“We will definitely miss Mike and we wish him well in his retirement,” Chief Justice Loughry said. “Mike dedicated his career to improving probation in West Virginia and leaves behind an impressive legacy.
 
“Stephanie Bond has a wealth of experience and a deep respect for probation officers and the people the division serves,” Chief Justice Loughry continued. “Her reputation for fairness and strong leadership skills is well-known throughout the state, and we are excited to have her join our judicial family.”
 
Bond also spoke of her new post.
 
“I am very honored to have been chosen for this position, and Iappreciate the confidence the Supreme Court has placed in me. Having worked with probation officers as well as circuit court judges, throughout my career, I look forward to this new opportunity to be more involved with the judicial branch," she said.
 
Bond is a native of Clarksburg and a graduate of Liberty High School. She has a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from Fairmont State College and a master’s degree in counseling from West Virginia University.
 
She began her career as a Correctional Counselor at the former West Virginia Industrial Home for Youth (WVIHY) in August 1993. During her career at WVIHY, she held several positions including Unit Manager and Assistant Superintendent of Treatment and Programs before being appointed Acting DJS Superintendent.
 
She has served on the Governor's Intergovernmental Task Force on Juvenile Justice and is an active member of the Council of Juvenile Correctional Administrators and the Correctional Peace Officers Foundation.
