What started as a routine traffic stop for speeding turned into a drug bust with multiple drugs recovered and two individuals arrested.

According to information provided by Bridgeport Police Lt. Mike Lemley, at roughly 11 a.m. today the Bridgeport Police stopped a black Kia Soul on Interstate 79’s northbound lane at the 122 mile marker for speeding. The vehicle bore a Kentucky registration of 272LSW.

During the stop, Lemley reported, the actions of both the driver and the passenger raised the suspicion of Officer F.S. Toothman. Toothman requested the city’s K-9 Officer S. Fleming to assist at the scene. Along with Fleming, two members of the recently formed Mountaineer Highway Interdiction Team (MHIT) also responded.

The K-9 unit got a positive hit on the vehicle. After that, the officers on the scene discovered 1.5 ounces of Hallucinogenic mushrooms, approximately 30 hits of LSD, 1 gram of crack cocaine and small amount of Hash.

The driver Michael Cornett and passenger Dylan Robert, both of Kentucky, were arrested and charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance with intent to deliver. Both subjects failed to post bond and are currently residing in the North Central Regional Jail.
