Community Pharmacy Offering Free Vitamin Clubs for Kids and Seniors

By Julie Perine on March 30, 2015 via Connect-Bridgeport.com

Community Pharmacy is offering free vitamin clubs for kids and senior citizens. The process is simple. Children ages 2 to 12 and seniors over age 50 receive appropriate vitamins free of charge. The benefit is huge, said Pharmacist and store Co-Owner TJ Ravis.

“We want to make sure kids grow up getting essential vitamins and nutrients they need, especially at a young age as they are around a lot of kids at school and it helps to boost their immune system,” he said. “And taking vitamins is important overall as not everyone eats as they should, going for convenience and not always making the best choices. Vitamins and minerals then go missing from their diets. We want to meet the health needs of customers and make sure they are healthy – to fill voids they have from not eating right and help them lead a healthy lifestyle. Also, there may be some medical conditions in some areas and it’s a nice supplement to add to their regimen.”

The club has been in existence since the end of 2014.

“We buy the vitamins from our wholesaler and provide them free of charge,” Ravis said. “For the kids, they are chewable multivitamins; all natural colors and flavors with no preservatives, salt or anything in them.

Children ages 2 and 3 receive one bottle of 30 vitamins per month and children ages 4 through 12 receive two bottles per month as they can take two vitamins daily, Ravis said.

“A parent can bring the child in or the parent can come along and sign the child up,” he said. “We treat it as a prescription and write it up with 11 refills on it. We put it in the system as a prescription number and it can be refilled by calling or going on line to our Web site.”

Each parent receives prescription club cards for each child eligible for the program. The card contains the child’s name and 12 check-off locations in order to keep track of the program and be consistent, Ravis said.

The pharmacy has partnered with Simpson and Johnson Elementary PTAs. Many students from each school are on board with the free vitamin club. Any children age 2 to 12 are eligible and may stop in the pharmacy to get signed up, Ravis said.

Individuals age 50 and over qualify for the senior vitamin club.

“They receive our Leader Brand vitamin, which is comparable to Centrum Silver,” Ravis said.

Affiliated with Town and Country Pharmacy in Stonewood, Community Pharmacy is glad to be able to provide the community service.

Community Pharmacy is located at 1212 Johnson Avenue.
