Bridgeport City Engineer Beth Fox said an upgrade project involving both sewer and water lines will begin this coming weekend.

“The job is about 70 percent water line upgrade and about 30 percent sewer line,” she said. “The sewer line work will take place on Third Street, Gordon Street and Bartlett Avenue, coming down onto a portion of Main Street and the water line upgrade runs all the way down Rt. 50/Main Street from about Center Street almost to the 131 intersection.”

About 3,000 feet of the project involves reconnection of service lines to homes and businesses, Fox said.

The project will begin the evening of Sunday, April 2. Crews will begin work around 8:30 p.m. and work to approximately 5:30 a.m.
“We’ll see how traffic flow is at 8:30 p.m. If it’s not too bad, we may have an earlier start,” Fox said. “We’re not sure if crews will be working four or five nights per week. It depends on how quickly we get done and how smoothly things go.”
Water customers in the area may experience a disruption in service only when tying in new service lines to residents and businesses.

“It would be in the middle of the night and possibly only for 30 minutes to an hour at the most,” she said. “We will be putting notices on doorknobs advising them when we plan to do that so we will keep all residents and business owners aware of what we’re doing and what to expect.”

The city asks that residents and business owners be patient concerning the work and the road conditions in the interim.

“The roads won’t be in the best shape until it’s completed and we can get them paved,” Fox said. “If anyone has concerns, they may call the city and we’ll address them. We’ll have a crew on standby here at Public Works if any problems come about in the middle of the night.”

The work will be done by PRO Contracting of Clarksburg. The company is utilizing city-owned property between East Main Street and Philadelphia Avenue to store equipment and materials.

“It’s close to the project site so there won’t be much mobilization,” Fox said.
