Members of Bridgeport City Council met in work session Monday evening to wrap up a couple of major city issues. Joining Council members, Mayor Andy Lang, Recorder Hank Murray, City Manager Kim Haws, Assistant City Manager Jimmy Smith and City Attorney Dean Ramsey were City Engineer Beth Fox, Community Development Director Andrea Kerr, Parks and Recreation Director Don Burton and Deputy Director Joe Shuttleworth, Jim Christie, senior project manager with Civil & Environmental Consultants and Richard Forren, senior project architect with Omni Associates.

Those professionals all play a role in the design of the city’s new indoor sports complex –  the first phase scheduled to be constructed in the summer of 2020. A presentation was to be made at Monday night's meeting in preparation of the March 26 regularly-scheduled Council meeting, at which time details will be disclosed to the public, Lang said.

The topic of amenities is one which all players have taken seriously and given much thought for well over a year. Active members of the public were solicited and their thoughts and desires also taken into consideration. It will be exciting to reveal what amenities will be included in the first phase of the project, Lang said.

Also in attendance at Monday’s meeting was Finance Director Monica Musgrave as Council was also to wrap up discussions about the city’s $15.3 million budget for the 2018-19 fiscal year. For the past few weeks, Council has been taking budget line items in the 50-page working budget one by one. The budget will be voted upon at the March 26 meeting and must be submitted to the state by month's end, Musgrave said.

Monday evening’s meeting took place behind closed doors in executive session. No decisions were to be made, Lang said.
