DHHR Reports 1,074 New COVID Cases; Harrison County's Active Cases at 129; State Deaths at 7,201

The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources is reporting as of this morning (Wednesday, Aug.10) the total number of  COVID-19 cases has increased to 565,397 with an increase of 1,074 new cases since the last update.
 
Wednesday's report shows the percentage of positive cases vs. tests given is 8.38 percent. The daily percent positive is at 8.67.
 
According to the DHHR website, Harrison County's numbers are at 22,867 (15,352 confirmed and 7,515 probable). Harrison County's active cases are at 129. There have been 22,476 recoveries and 262 deaths.
 
Please note that delays may be experienced with the reporting of information from the local health department to DHHR. As case surveillance continues at the local health department level, it may reveal that those tested in a certain county may not be a resident of that county, or even the state as an individual in question may have crossed the state border to be tested. 
 
The state's cumulative number of COVID-releated deaths is at 7,201 with nine deaths reported since the previous update.
 
DHHR has confirmed the deaths of a 71-year old male from Barbour County, a 72-year old male from Kanawha County, a 58-year old male from Randolph County, an 84-year old female from Mason County, a 97-year old female from Braxton County, a 97-year old male from Mercer County, a 66-year old male from Monroe County, a 91-year old female from Lincoln County, and an 80-year old female from Ohio County. “We extend our sympathy to all of the loved ones impacted by these deaths,” said Bill J. Crouch, DHHR Cabinet Secretary. “To West Virginians not yet vaccinated, know that getting vaccinated is the key to less severe disease and reduced deaths.”
 
There are 3,111 active cases and there have been 555,085 recoveries.
 
According to the DHHR site, as of Aug. 9, there are 399 hospitalizations with 61 patients in ICUs and 15 on ventilators.
