DHHR Reports 2,109 New COVID Cases; Harrison County's Active Cases at 116; State Deaths at 7,188

The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources is reporting as of this morning (Monday, Aug.8) the total number of COVID-19 cases has increased to 563,384 with an increase of 2,109 new cases since the last update.
Monday's report shows the percentage of positive cases vs. tests given is 8.36 percent. The daily percent positive is at 17.11.
According to the DHHR website, Harrison County's numbers are at 22,686 (15,302 confirmed and 7,472 probable). Harrison County's active cases are at 116. There have been 22,396 recoveries and 262 deaths.
Please note that delays may be experienced with the reporting of information from the local health department to DHHR. As case surveillance continues at the local health department level, it may reveal that those tested in a certain county may not be a resident of that county, or even the state as an individual in question may have crossed the state border to be tested.
The state's cumulative number of COVID-releated deaths is at 7,188 with four deaths reported since the previous update.
DHHR has confirmed the deaths of a 74-year old male from Fayette County, an 82-year old female from Mason County, a 51-year old female from Boone County, and a 59-year old female from Putnam County.
“Today we remember not only each life lost to COVID, but each member of our healthcare system who continues to respond to this terrible disease,” said Bill J. Crouch, DHHR Cabinet Secretary. “Please do your part to help our state in its battle to prevent additional deaths by choosing to receive your vaccine and booster shot.”
There are 3,057 active cases and there have been 553,139 recoveries.
According to the DHHR site, as of Aug. 5, there are 361 hospitalizations with 64 patients in ICUs and 19 on ventilators.
