DHHR Reports 292 New COVID Cases; Harrison County's Active Cases at 43; State Deaths at 7,627

The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources is reporting as of this morning (Friday, Dec. 2) the total number of  COVID-19 cases has increased to 615,332 with an increase of 292 new cases since the last update.
 
Friday's report shows the percentage of positive cases vs. tests given is 8.53 percent. The daily percent positive is at 6.10.
 
According to the DHHR website, Harrison County's numbers are at 25,054 (16,562 confirmed and 8,492 probable). Harrison County's active cases are at 43. There have been 24,734 recoveries and 277 deaths.
 
Please note that delays may be experienced with the reporting of information from the local health department to DHHR. As case surveillance continues at the local health department level, it may reveal that those tested in a certain county may not be a resident of that county, or even the state as an individual in question may have crossed the state border to be tested. 
 
The state's cumulative number of COVID-releated deaths is at 7,627 with nine deaths reported since the previous report.
 
DHHR has confirmed the deaths of an 87-year old female from Putnam County, an 86-year old female from Marion County, a 73-year old female from Raleigh County, an 87-year old male from Ohio County, a 91-year old female from Ohio County, a 42-year old female from Berkeley County, a 72-year old female from Berkeley County, a 93-year old male from Cabell County, and an 82-year old female from Putnam County.
 
"COVID vaccines and boosters are the best protection against the virus," said Bill J. Crouch, DHHR Cabinet Secretary. "I encourage West Virginians who are eligible for a vaccine or booster shot to schedule an appointment today."
 
There are 1,044 active cases and there have been 606,661 recoveries.
 
According to the DHHR site, as of Dec. 1, there are 161 hospitalizations with 28 patients in ICUs and eight on ventilators.
