DHHR Reports 3,673 New COVID Cases; Harrison County's Active Cases at 680; State Deaths at 5,535

The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources is reporting as of this morning (Monday, Jan. 17) the total number of  COVID-19 cases has increased from 377,735 to 390,788 since Friday including an increase of 3,673 over the previous 24 hours.
 
Monday's report shows the percentage of positive cases vs. tests given is 7.32 percent. The daily percent positive is at 22.51 percent (daily tests/confirmatory test results).
 
According to the DHHR website, Harrison County's numbers are at 15,433 (10,417 confirmed and 5,016 probable). Harrison County's active cases are at 680, there have been 14,544 recoveries and 209 deaths.
 
Please note that delays may be experienced with the reporting of information from the local health department to DHHR. As case surveillance continues at the local health department level, it may reveal that those tested in a certain county may not be a resident of that county, or even the state as an individual in question may have crossed the state border to be tested. 
 
The total number of deaths related to the coronavirus is at 5,535 with 19deaths reported during the previous 24 hours.
 
DHHR has confirmed the deaths of a 49-year old female from Berkeley County, a 70-year old male from Raleigh County, a 69-year old female from Harrison County, an 82-year old male from Hardy County, a 63-year old male from Hampshire County, an 80-year old female from Wyoming County, a 61-year old female from Hampshire County, an 88-year old female from Jackson County, an 80-year old female from Hardy County, an 87-year old male from Jefferson County, an 80-year old male from Mercer County, a 75-year old female from Cabell County, a 67-year old male from Marshall County, a 77-year old female from Raleigh County, an 87-year old male from Wood County, a 50-year old male from Pocahontas County, an 87-year old female from Raleigh County, an 81-year old female from Mingo County, and an 86-year old male from Monongalia County.    “As West Virginians, we must not tire of preventive measures that ensure the health and safety of our friends, family and neighbors,” said Bill J. Crouch, DHHR Cabinet Secretary. “I urge you to get vaccinated or boosted.”
 
There are currently 20,392 active cases statewide. Active cases now reflect an active status length of five days instead of 10 to coincide with revised CDC guidelines.
 
There have been 364,861 recoveries.
 
According to the DHHR site, as of Jan. 16, there are 829 hospitalizations with 205 patients in ICUs and 119 on ventilators.
