DHHR Reports 860 New COVID Cases; Harrison County's Active Cases at 101; State Deaths at 6,912

The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources is reporting as of this morning (Thursday, May 19) the total number of  COVID-19 cases has increased to 508,538 with an increase of 860 new cases since the last update.
 
Thursday's report shows the percentage of positive cases vs. tests given is 8.10 percent. The daily percent positive is at 7.26 percent (daily tests/confirmatory test results).
 
According to the DHHR website, Harrison County's numbers are at 20,223 (13,833 confirmed and 6,390 probable). Harrison County's active cases are at 101, there have been 19,869 recoveries and 253 deaths.
 
Please note that delays may be experienced with the reporting of information from the local health department to DHHR. As case surveillance continues at the local health department level, it may reveal that those tested in a certain county may not be a resident of that county, or even the state as an individual in question may have crossed the state border to be tested. 
 
The state's cumulative number of COVID-releated deaths is at 6,912 with seven deaths reported since Wednesday.
 
DHHR has confirmed the deaths of a 93-year old female from Greenbrier County, a 76-year old male from Raleigh County, a 90-year old female from Raleigh County, a 68-year old male from Putnam County, and a 78-year old male from Jefferson County.
 
Additional deaths reported on the dashboard as a result of the Bureau for Public Health’s continuing data reconciliation with the official death certificate are a 63-year old female from Jackson County and a 59-year old female from Wood County. These deaths occurred in March 2022.
 
“We share in the loss of these great West Virginians,” said Bill J. Crouch, DHHR Cabinet Secretary. “Our thoughts and sympathies are extended to these families during their time of grief.” 
 
There are 2,079 active cases and there have been 499,547 recoveries.
 
According to the DHHR site, as of May 18, there are 149 hospitalizations with 22 patients in ICUs and 11 on ventilators.
