DHHR Reports Increase of 130 Cases of COVID-19; Harrison County's Number at 216; State Deaths at 131

Editor's Note: Starting Aug. 1 the DHHR switched to just one COVID-19 statistic update per day. The daily reports are scheduled to be released at 10 a.m.
 
The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources is reporting as of this morning (Saturday, Aug. 8) at 10 a.m., the total number of COVID-19 cases has increased from 7,433 to 7,563; an increase of 130. 
 
Thursday's report is showing that the total number of tests given is 317,763 and the percentage of positive cases vs. tests given is at 2.38 percent. The daily percent positive is at 2.47 percent (daily tests/confirmatory test results).
 
According to the DHHR website, Harrison County's numbers are at 216 confirmed cases, 1 probable case, 49 active cases, one death and 169 recoveries. 
 
As case surveillance continues at the local health department level, it may reveal that those tested in a certain county may not be a resident of that county, or even the state as an individual in question may have crossed the state border to be tested.  
 
Also, the DHHR is reporting the number of statewide deaths has increased from 127 to 131. The four most recent deaths are a 70-year-old male from Cabell County, a 38-year-old female from Kanawha County, an 84-year-old female from Fayette County and a 77-year-old female from Fayette County.
 
The number of recoveries from the virus is at 5,609 with active cases at 1,823.
