Editor's Note: Starting Aug. 1 the DHHR switched to just one COVID-19 statistic update per day. The daily reports are scheduled to be released at 10 a.m.

 

The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources is reporting as of this morning (Friday, Aug. 7) at 10 a.m., the total number of COVID-19 cases has increased from 7,277 to 7,433; an increase of 156. 

 

Thursday's report is showing that the total number of tests given is 312,521 and the percentage of positive cases vs. tests given is at 2.38 percent. The daily percent positive is at 2.66 percent (daily tests/confirmatory test results).

 

According to the DHHR website, Harrison County's numbers are at 213 confirmed cases, 1 probable case, 49 active cases, one death and 164 recoveries. 

 

As case surveillance continues at the local health department level, it may reveal that those tested in a certain county may not be a resident of that county, or even the state as an individual in question may have crossed the state border to be tested.  

 

Also, the DHHR is reporting the number of statewide deaths has increased from 124 to 127.The three most recent deaths are an 81-year-old woman from Pleasants County, a 66-year-old male from Mingo County and a 73-year-old male from Mingo County.

 

The number of recoveries from the virus is at 5,510 with active cases at 1,796.
