Development Authority Postpones Action Due to Lack of Quorum

The Bridgeport Development Authority was scheduled to meet this morning with a fairly busy agenda, but due to lack of attendance, the meeting had to be postponed.

“We just had some general discussion on various projects, but due to a lack of quorum, here was no official action taken and the meeting was rescheduled for Aug. 18,” said Community Development Director Randy Spellman.

Among today’s proposed agenda items was a resolution approving an agreement with Citynet for the Fiber to the Home (FTTH) project.

On July 28, Bridgeport City Council voted to allow Citynet to provide fiber optic cable to homes within the city, thus taking the first major step to expand “Gigaport,” which was implemented in recent months via a pilot project. About 200 homes participated in the pilot program to access the super high speed internet service through Citynet.

The next step is application for a $3 million loan from the West Virginia Economic Development Agency, facilitating the installation of the project infrastructure to a large portion of the city with estimated time of completion to be about three years.

Also slated for today’s meeting was a general update on economic development activity, the request of Lodgeville Estates, LLC for an economic development grant and discussion of board membership and attendance.

There was discussion this morning on that final item.

“We discussed future meeting times and board make-up and membership – things of that nature – trying to find a day and time that would be suitable to a majority of the members,” Spellman said.

The Aug. 18 meeting will begin at 8:30 a.m. There are 12 members on the board and seven are needed for a quorum, Spellman said.
