SUBMITTED BY DOMINION HOPE:

Share Our Soles is Dominion’s unique effort to support our friends and neighbors in West Virginia following the devastating floods on June 23.  Thousands of children in southern West Virginia who were impacted by flooding escaped with only the clothes on their backs and the shoes on their feet. Because most lost everything, they had to continue to wear their only pair of shoes through all aspects of flood recovery and for some, will have to continue wearing those same pair of shoes to school.

Now, “Let the Sorting Begin” of the  more than two-thousand pairs of shoes that have been brought to the Dominion Transmission headquarters in Bridgeport so far and, the anticipation of another thousand or more shoes arriving from other locations. Volunteers will begin sorting shoes by gender and size on Wednesday, August 24 at 8 a.m. Shoes will then be loaded into trucks for the trip to the areas affected by the flooding.

Other volunteers are standing-by at elementary, middle, and high schools in the affected areas to measure children’s feet to make sure they receive the correct size shoe. If a child needs a pair of shoes regardless of whether they were affected by the flooding or not, they will be given shoes.
