Bridgeport High School Principal Renee' Mathews has announced that Elaina Beckwith and Eli Jones are the January, 2024 Students of the Month. Below is a profile of each student.

Elaina Beckwith is the daughter of Doreen and Howard Beckwith, and is the older sister of Trey Beckwith, a freshman at BHS.

She has been a consistent honor roll student during all semesters at BHS and has received academic lamps and letters every year for her hard work. Elaina has participated in eight AP courses, passing each exam taken and earning national recognition from the College Board by receiving the “AP Scholar with Honor Award” which recognizes students who have passed four AP exams with an average score of 3.25, and the “National Rural and Small-Town Award” which recognizes students who score within the top 10% of test takers in their state. She is a proud member of the National Honor Society where she participates in various volunteer projects around Bridgeport.

In addition to National Honor Society, Elaina has participated in many clubs all four years at BHS and had been an active member of Key Club, French Club, Chess Club, Girl Up, and Model United Nations where she is a founding member. Outside of the classroom, Elaina has been fortunate to have had many local volunteer opportunities with organizations and projects such as One King Sports, Building Hope, Shop for Tots, and Operation Christmas Child.

Elaina is a four-year member of the BHS Varsity Soccer team. Last year, as a junior, she led the BHS Junior Varsity Soccer team as captain. She has worked hard alongside her team to earn three Sectional Championship Titles and two Big 10 Championship Titles. During her sophomore year, the team was awarded the WVSSAC Academic Achievement Award Team Sport. Outside of the high school season, she participates in travel soccer and has played soccer overall for fourteen years.

Last summer, Elaina was chosen to represent BHS at West Virginia Rhododendron Girls State where she was elected by her peers to the House of Delegates and participated in the first ever joint legislative session between Rhododendron Girls State and Mountaineer Boys State.

After high school, Elaina plans to attend Maryville College in Maryville, TN, and is currently undecided in her major and has accepted the McGill Scholarship, valued at full tuition. She is extremely thankful for all her teachers and advisors who have pushed her to become the best version of herself and supported her through all her endeavors, and values the Bridgeport community, as they have shaped her into the young woman she is today.

Eli Jones is the son of Jay and Jodi Jones and the brother to former BHS graduate, Emma Jones. He is a current senior at Bridgeport High School and a part of the Class of 2024.

Eli is involved with his school in many ways. He has been an honor roll student every semester while at BHS, a member of National Honors Society, received lamps and letters every year at BHS, and has taken seven advanced placement courses.

Eli is also a part of many clubs and student organizations at Bridgeport High School. Eli participates in Student Council where he currently serves as Senior Class Treasure. He is also a member of Key Club, Spanish Club, and Model UN.

Eli plays tennis almost year-round at Summit Tennis Academy in Morgantown. He is also in his third season as a part of the tennis team. Last year, Eli played doubles with another member of the class of 2024, Gregory Noone. They, alongside others from the team, won the Big 10 team competition and qualified for the WVSSAC State Tennis Tournament by finishing runner-up in regionals.

Eli is a member of the Bridgeport Methodist Church and the youth group, Chi Alpha, where he participates in many service projects at the Clarksburg Mission and Shepard’s Corner. He is also an involved member of 4-H where he has attended several camps and has won many awards.

Eli plans to attend Vanderbilt University in the fall of 2024 to pursue a degree in chemical engineering.

Eli would like to thank all the friends, teachers, administrators, and family members in his life that allowed him to flourish at Bridgeport High School.
