Elaina Henriquez Named Bandland Student of the Month

By Julie Perine on April 19, 2014 via Connect-Bridgeport.com

Bridgeport High School band student and self-proclaimed rocker Elaina Henriquez has been named Bandland Education Center Student of the Month for April 2014.
Just a freshman, Henriquez is a member of the BHS drumline, symphonic band and percussion ensemble. She’s currently in her second year of lessons with Matt Schoonmaker of Bandland, having started on the snare drum and working her way up to the trap set, which she played at Bridgeport Middle School for both Pandemonium Steel Drum Band and BMS Jazz Band.

Although she loves playing all genres of music, Henriquez said she particularly loves rock and alternative styles. Playing in a local rock band is her current aspiration. Playing professionally is her long-term goal.

Being recognized by Bandland - an area instruction icon – is quite an honor, she said. She plans to continue honing her musical skills and sharing them with school and area groups.

Eliana is the daughter of Cathy and Joe Monahan of Bridgeport and Max Henriquez of Clarksburg. She is also the younger sister of 2014 Bridgeport High School Drum Major Miguel Henriquez.
