In November of 2003, the musical motion picture “Elf” debuted on the big screen and became a holiday classic. In November of 2019, “Elf the Musical” will come to the stage of Bridgeport High School. This year’s BHS senior play will feature the whimsical adventures of Buddy the Elf, the orphan who made his way to the North Pole and became an oversized elf before venturing back to New York City to find his family and put a spark back in their spirits.

Auditions are at 3:30 p.m. today, Wed., Sept. 4 at BHS.

Trina Byard, director, said high school actors seem excited about this year’s play and she hopes for a good turning at today’s auditions. In addition to BHS students, there will be a few parts for younger kids, but there will not be open auditions for those roles.

“We plan to offer those roles to children of BHS faculty or siblings of seniors cast in the show,” Byard said.

The show will be performed Nov. 3-4 at the BHS auditorium. Audience members of all ages will enjoy the production, Byard said, a spinoff on the famed movie.

“The story is the same as the movie, but the music is original and written for the play,” she said. “We will be designing and making costumes for our production.”

Byard will mentor and work with student designers on the costumes.

“Bethany Queen plans to take the lead on the student costume design and construction,” she said.
