Extracurricular Activities in Harrison County Facilities to be Scrapped Wednesday if Strike Continues

The following comment was just released.

"Dr. Mark Manchin met with local union leadership and principals this morning. Consistent with last year’s protocols and in continued support of our employees, Dr. Manchin and all parties agree that extracurricular activities in Harrison County will cease tomorrow evening after 3 p.m.

"All extracurricular activities in our schools are canceled until there is a resolution to this strike. Out-of-county extracurricular activities are permitted during the strike with principal approval. No Harrison County buses will be provided during the strike, and our facilities will be closed. We remain united. #HarrisonUnited#proudtobeHC"

The cancelation appears to impact the girls Class AA basketball tournament. Bridgeport is scheduled to host Elkins at 7 p.m. Based on the statement, it likely means the game - if the strike continues - would have to be moved to a neutral site.

However, all of it may be a moot point based on a decision to postpone indefinitely the Omnibus Education Bill that has led to the strike.
