Fairmont State Concrete Canoe Team to Host "Color Me Creepy" Fundraising Walk/Run

The American Society of Civil Engineers is a professional body that was founded in 1852 to represent members of the civil engineering profession worldwide. Fairmont State University is home to a decorated student chapter this global organization.  For the past 15 years, Fairmont State has represented the Virginias Conference of ASCE in the Concrete Canoe Competition on the national level – which is a national record for consecutive appearances.  Fairmont State’s chapter is also known for its various outreach projects, such as the construction of a greenhouse for West Fairmont Middle School, as well as the instruction of students in area schools for the West Virginia Bridge Design and Build Competition – with the goal of inspiring young minds to pursue the engineering field. 
 
On Sunday, October 21, the Fairmont State University ASCE will be hosting a 5K Run/Walk to raise funds for students to attend regional and national competitions and conferences.  All funds will go towards registration fees and travel expenses for students. The Halloween 5K Run/Walk is themed “Color Me Creepy” as participants will be colored in Halloween colors. The event will be held at Monongah West Fork Trail, beginning at 2 p.m. Registration is $15 for children age 12 and under, $25 for early registration (before Oct. 7, T-shirt included) and $30 Oct. 7 through race day, Oct. 21.
