Farmers Market Wraps Up Another Successful Outdoor Season; No Winter Indoor Market Again This Year

By Chris Johnson on September 28, 2021 via Connect-Bridgeport.com

The Bridgeport Farmers Market wrapped up another successful outdoor season on Sunday.

“We’ve had a really good season,” Bridgeport Farmers Market President Amanda Workman-Scott said.

“It’s been a busy season for our vendors. Everybody has been great, the customers, the vendors. We continued to follow everything that was going on through the season with COVID. We did make the decision to shut down a little earlier than expected due to the increase in cases and the over capacity at the local hospitals but overall it has been a really great season and we were able to stay open two weeks longer than we did last year.”

For two straight seasons now, the Market has navigated as smoothly as possible with COVID-related issues. The big difference from 2021 to 2020 was they were able to bring back some of the attractions other than the food vendors this season.

“It was great to bring the music back,” Workman-Scott said. “That’s a piece of it I really missed last year because the music really does make it feel like an event.

“We were able to bring back some of the authors and non-profits this year. We were able to bring back our food truck which was really cool. We were so happy we were able to do that.”

Workman-Scott said, for the second year in a row, there will not be an indoor winter’s market.

“We don’t feel like it is the safe thing or best thing to do,” she said. “But that’s not to say that it’s not ever coming back so we have started talking about what we can do in the future.

“It was a hard decision to make but people can still reach out to the vendors. The vendors are still there. You can still purchase things from the vendors, we just unfortunately can’t bring all the vendors together in one space.”

Workman-Scott said if customers want to purchase something from a particular vendor, they can contact that vendor directly. And if they don’t know how to do that, they can reach out to the Farmers Market and they can give them the contact information.

As of now there isn’t an exact date for the 2022 outdoor market, it is expected to open in May as usual.
