A kitchen has been demolished and total damages estimated at $75,000 to $100,000 incurred after a Maple Lake home caught fire Sunday evening.

Bridgeport Fire Department was dispatched to the structure fire at 5:04 p.m. Sunday.

“It was a single-family residence; the fire starting in the kitchen,” said Bridgeport Fire Captain Steve Gallo. “We were able to contain the fire to the kitchen, but there was smoke damage throughout.”

It was unknown Sunday evening if the occupants had been home when the fire started. The cause of the fire was also unknown, Gallo said. There was no one inside the house when the fire department arrived and no one was injured.

The home is near the end of the lake, on the opposite side of the clubhouse.

Responding to assist were Flemington, Nutter Fort, Shinnston, Anmoore and Grafton fire departments.

“We appreciate the response from neighboring agencies that assisted,” Gallo said. “Mutual aid companies responded and were a big help.”

Gallo said the fire was extinguished in a timely manner and that he was proud of the actions of his firefighters.

The family did have working smoke detectors inside the home, he said.
