Firefighters Fight Blaze at Crestview Terrace; One Flown Via HealthNet to West Penn Burn Center

By Julie Perine on April 22, 2016 via Connect-Bridgeport.com

For hours Friday afternoon, Bridgeport Fire Department and units from surrounding communities battled a working structure fire at an apartment complex at Crestview Terrace. One adult male was removed from the structure.

"One individual was found on the ground floor, pulled out and rendered care by Bridgeport Fire Department and paramedics. He's in very serious condition," said Interim Fire Chief Phil Hart. "He was transported to the (North Central West Virginia) Airport by Anmoore EMS and is being transferred to West Penn Burn Center by HealthNet Aeromedical Services."

At this time, the cause of the fire is unknown, but it does appear to be accidental, Hart said.

The flames were contained to one apartment building. One ground floor apartment was occupied by the male individual. A few other apartments were involved in the blaze.

"The rest of the apartments (in the building) have smoke and water damage," Hart said. "Our guys did an excellent job stopping and containing the fire."

The call went out over Harrison County Emergency Services at 1:11 p.m. In addition to Bridgeport units, those from Anmoore, Nutter Fort, Flemington, Spelter and Shinnston were on the scene.

UPDATE:  After meeting this evening with the West Virginia fire marshal, Hart said there does not appear to be anything suspicious at this time and that the origin is still undetermined. He also clarified that a total of eight apartments were affected by the fire, one which was vacant. Three of the apartments were occupied at the time of the fire, but occupants in the two upstairs units were able to self-evacuate. The fire originated in one of the downstairs units.
