By Connect-Bridgeport Staff on September 24, 2018 via Connect-Bridgeport.com

According to the National Weather Service in Charleston, a Flash Flood Watch remains in effect through this afternoon for much of North Central West Virginia and beyond. The areas include the counties of Braxton; Cabell; Calhoun; Clay; Doddridge; Gilmer; Harrison; Jackson; Kanawha; Lewis; Lincoln; Mason; Putnam; Ritchie; Roane; Wayne; and Wirt.

There will be periods of moderate to heavy rain through this afternoon. All told, the areas impacted include portions of northeast Kentucky, southeast Ohio, and West Virginia, including the following areas, in northeast Kentucky, Boyd, Carter, Greenup, and Lawrence KY. In southeast Ohio, Gallia and Lawrence OH.

A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead to flash flooding. Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation. You should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action should Flash Flood Warnings be issued

Soils across the area are nearly saturated due to previous rainfall. Additional showers and thunderstorms, some with heavy rain, are expected to affect the area through this afternoon. Flash flooding of creeks, streams and low lying areas will be possible.
