Formerly of Bridgeport, 26-year-old Meredith Legg Stapleton lost her battle with cancer on Monday. During her youth in Bridgeport, she was known for her smile, her athletic ability and conscientiousness efforts. Since her illness nine years ago, she has been also known for her avid faith in God and zest for life. 

Stapleton formerly played basketball at the University of South Carolina Aiken. It was during her 2009 senior year that she was diagnosed with ocular melanoma, a rare cancer of the eye, which spread to her liver.
