Four from The Auxiliary to United Hospital Center Take Part in AWVHA State Workshop at Stonewall Resort

Four from The Auxiliary to United Hospital Center attended the Annual AWVHA State Workshop.  This Workshop was held on May 9-11, 2022, at the Stonewall Resort.  Those attending were: Denise Steffich, Certified Director of Volunteer Services, Scott Griffiths, Gift Shop Manager, Sharon Montgomery, President of the UHC Auxiliary, and Deb Donini, Secretary of the UHC Auxiliary.
 
The Keynote Speaker was Kelly Hester, M.A. Licensed Clinical Psychologist from St. Mary’s Medical Center.  She spoke on “COVID And How to Get Back to Dealing with Life”.
 
Brandon Hatfield – General Counsel WVHA, spoke on “Legislative Summary and Potential Elections Impact on WV”.
There was also a segment on “Healing Hounds” – WVU Hospitals.
 
Marty Booth and Debbie Romaine gave a presentation for Gift Shops regarding Pet Therapy on “Size Doesn’t Matter:  Big or Small Can Have It All” “A Fast Convenient Way to Stock Your Shelves.”
 
Another program was very pertinent to what we are dealing with today.  COVID-19: One Nurse’s View.  This was presented by Sissy K. Price-BSN RN Infection Preventionist WVU Medicine – BCMH & SRMC.
 
Melanie Dempsey – Vice-President Financial Policy – WVHA presented another very timely topic – Fiscal Health of Hospitals and The Changing Landscapes Post COVID”
 
There were also workshops geared specifically for the Directors of Volunteer Services.  Our very own Director of Volunteer Services, Denise Steffich, did a Volgistic’s presentation on Beta.  Nancy Beckner presented a segment on Online Volunteer Orientation.  There was also a segment on Networking, followed by the WVSDVS Board Meeting.
 
The closing session was conducted by Jim Kaufman, President and CEO, WVHA , Future of Healthcare & Challenges/Opportunities for West Virginia.
 
Even with all these workshops, there was still time to enjoy wonderful meals at Stillwaters Restaurant and time in the evenings to enjoy Game Night (Assorted board games, dominoes, card games, Bingo, etc.  
 
There was a Vendor Show on Tuesday, with many vendors participating.  This gave the hospitals an opportunity, not only to purchase items, but to schedule them to come to different hospitals as fundraisers.
