Free Community Conversation on Substance Abuse Prevention and Mental Illness Scheduled for Tuesday

With the headlines full of reports on the drug epidemic in Harrison County, it’s no surprise that people are hungry for information that will reduce the activity.  All Saints Catholic Church Social Justice Committee, along with other community agencies and volunteers, will be hosting their second “Community Conversation” about Substance Abuse Prevention and Mental Illness, with a focus on childhood through early adulthood.  It will take place on Tuesday, May 24 at the All Saints Catholic Church Social Hall on East Main Street. 
 
The event will take place from 6:00p.m. to 8:00p.m.,with refreshments and registration starting at 5:30p.m.  The mission of the community conversation is to educate, connect and strategize in order to reduce the number of drug-related crimes in our area.  Childcare will be provided onsite and everyone is encouraged to attend.
 
Speakers scheduled for the evening include Jennifer Randall, who will be presenting about brain development and abuse prevention; Jo Anne McNemar, who will introduce the group to an overview of youth mental health first aid; Dr. Christine Schimmel, who will discuss the goals of misbehavior; and Valerie Hutson, who will teach strategies for managing behavior disorders in the home.
 
All Saints Social Justice Committee, Ellen Condron, All Saints Parrish Nurse, Jo Anne McNemar, Harrison County FRN Partnerships for Success and prevention specialists will each have exhibits at the event.
