We yell at them. We tell them to hurry up.  We restart them when they don’t listen.

Computers have become virtual umbilical cords to most of us and the thought of having to go back to doing research in library stacks sends terror through most of us.  It really is a love/hate relationship, but one that is necessary to fully function in today’s world.
The truth is, most of us don’t use our computers to the fullest extent.  We type in word processing, maybe figure budgets on spreadsheets, and, of course, Google virtually every question we have.  Behind those basic functions, however, there are countless resources that could streamline our lives, saving time and money for businesses and individuals.

Starting on Tuesday, September 27, free computer classes will be offered at Bridgeport High School for adults wishing to learn more about Microsoft Office.  The basic class will offer foundational skills such as using a mouse, file management, and interacting with Windows.  The intermediate class will delve deeper into Word and Excel, and Access, giving practical applications for the programs.

Offered since 1996, the classes were originally funded through an educational grant to ensure that adults were also given the opportunity to learn on public school computers.  Because adult education is a priority for the Harrison County Board of Education, they have continued to fund the classes, noting the value to the community. Former Bridgeport High School Computer Teacher, Clint Nesler, is the instructor, offering his expertise and patience as students explore the components of the computer.

Classes will be held in the BHS TOC Lab from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays from September 27-October 27.  All classes are free and open to the public. To register for classes, contact Jennifer Wotring at Edventure Group by calling 304-296-9021 ext. 14.
