The GFWC Woman's Club of Bridgeport and Bridgeport Junior Women's Club hosted the annual International Night Thursday, Oct. 10 at Bridgeport Presbyterian Church. In addition to a spread of culinary specialties of various countries, the meeting featured special guests Madame Deanna Garrett, French teacher at BHS, and two of her students Maggie Walker and Virginia Noone. After introductions by Garrett, Walker and Noone gave a presentation about their European trip during this past summer, sponsored by Garrett and facilitated by EF Tours. The students spent 10 days abroad, visiting Paris, France; Brussels, Belgium; Amsterdam in the Netherlands; Copenhagen, Denmark and Oslo, Norway. The girls provided an educational and personal overview of each city visited. Devotions were presented by club member Lenore Hinkle. International Night also annually features a birthday cake to celebrate Operation Smile. Candles were sold for the cake, all proceeds benefiting the non-profit organization which provides cleft surgeries for children throughout the world.
