Another popular Bridgeport event has been scratched due to COVID-19. Earlier this week, on the Facebook page "The Jack Strong Foundation," it was announced that The Jack Rollins Superhero 5k set for early fall has been canceled.

The event has consistently drawn hundreds of runners from Bridgeport and well beyond despite just being a few years old. It is held to raise funds for childhood cancer and is named in honor of Jack Rollins, a youngster from the city who passed from cancer.

In his honor, the race has seen a large portion of the participants compete dressed as their favorite superhero. This would have been the third annual race.

The announcement from the Facebook page is below.

"We are sad to announce that The Jack Rollins Superhero 5k scheduled for October 3, 2020 has been canceled.  We understand how disappointing this is for all involved, but the safety of our runners, walkers, and many volunteers is extremely important to us.
We thank you for your continued support as we begin working on the 2021 race."
