Holiday Light Display in Place at Bridgeport City Park, Bow String Bridge and Throughout City

As your family is making your way around the city to enjoy the holiday lights, don't forget to swing by Bridgeport City Park.

Annually, the park is home to a small series of animated light displays sure to delight your little ones. Displays include a train, carolers, skating reindeer and even Santa and Mrs. Claus on bikes. City Park is located behind Bridgeport High School, across the bridge.

The City Park light displays have been in place annually for the past six or seven years, Shuttleworth said.

“Somebody had gone to Fairmont or Oglebay to drive through one of the big light displays and thought it would be a neat idea, so we thought City Park would be the place. We could decorate the shelters and in front of the hills and out in the ball field. People could just drive through and get a look at the festive lights,” he said.

When one takes into account those displays – and all others which the Bridgeport Parks and Recreation staff sets up annually, it’s clear that the city takes its holiday preparations seriously.
“It’s quite the undertaking,” Shuttleworth said. “Our guys do all the light poles on the Main Street corridor, wrapping them with lights, adding ribbon and putting up banners, as well as light poles to the entrance of Meadowbrook Mall and lights at the Civic Center, library, fire department, and the Bow String Bridge.”

This is just the second year for the Bow String Bridge lights. Within the last couple of years, the light poles at the mall entrance were redone to match those on Main Street.

Shuttleworth said, altogether, his staff decorates 89 light poles – 70 along Main Street and 19 at Meadowbrook Mall.
