Holiday Mistletoe Shoppe is Open at GAL Building

By Julie Perine on November 12, 2022 via Connect-Bridgeport.com

The Mistletoe Holiday Shoppe is back to delight shoppers along Main Street. Now located at the GAL Land Company Building, the store again offers whimsical, colorful, and unique merchandise sure to put a smile on your face and some holiday in your spirit. Ideal for gift giving or home décor, the items range from holiday accents to interactive toys to make-it-yourself charcuterie boards.

The front room features a pair of Christmas trees – one decorated in porcelain ornaments and the other in full Santa mode. Dispersed throughout the space are mugs, wreaths, ceramic Christmas trees, custom West Virginia cutting boards, the “Take Me Home Country Roads” book and many other gift items. Among them are cards and dish towels of the Rosanne Beck collection and candles by Ella B., scented just for the holiday shop. Shoppers can choose from “Light Up Night” and “West Virginia Christmas.”

One of the next two rooms has been arranged in a kids/family theme.

“One table has mainly just family fun stuff – holiday bingo, the pajama story, the Christmas story egg, wooden nativity and the Star from Afar, and the Selfie Elfie, which is just precious,” Lang said.

Also showcased are stuffed “Slumberkins” by Jim Henson, as seen on Apple TV.

“We’re the only people in this area who carry them,” Lang said. “Each animal comes with a book which is about various kinds of feelings.”

In the food room are aprons, drink mixes, bowls, plates, and a plethora of items ideal for charcuterie boards. You can choose a standard board or one that looks like a sleigh or select charcuterie paper that can be spread across a table.

“Then we have the nuts, cheeses, olives, popcorn, and everything else you need,” Lang said.

Pieces from the Nora Fleming collection, Stonewall Kitchen items, men’s items, pajama sets, and cross stitch kits are just a few of the other items available.

“We’re trying to think about gifting experiences, rather than just items,” Lang said.

Lang said much of her inspiration this year came from her visit to the Dallas Market, focusing in on items that tell a story.

The Mistletoe Holiday Shoppe awaits a visit from Santa on Nov. 26, the Saturday following Thanksgiving.

“We’re having a backdrop made that should be up by the end of this week,” Lang said. “Santa Gene will be here 9 a.m. through 1 p.m. on the Saturday after Thanksgiving. We’ll have a professional photographer here and all you need to do to get a picture is donate to “Boxing it Up to Give Thanks.”
Refreshments will be served.

The Mistletoe Holiday Shoppe is owned by Lisa Lang and is an extension of her store, About You Monograms at 110 West Main.Last year, Lang set up her holiday shop in a giant white tent in the parking lot of About You Monograms.

“Everyone liked the Mistletoe Shoppe, which was supposed to reflect a New York City outside market,” Lang said.

This year, she has moved it a few doors east to the GAL Building (106 East Main) owned and formerly occupied by her husband Mayor Andy Lang and his business.

“Andy said he was wanting to get something in his building that would create more foot traffic, so I thought I’d just move the shop in there this year,” Lang said. “I’m thinking about moving the entire (About You Monograms) store here, but we’ll just do Christmas here this season and we might move the rest after the first of the year.”
About You Monograms also carries some holiday pieces. Items in both stores can be personally monogrammed.

GAL Land Company has moved into another office building, making way for a large inventory of holiday items.

The parking lot of About You Monograms will still feature holiday festivities. An old-fashioned red pick-up truck – already in place – will be filled with Christmas trees, serving as a fun backdrop for photos for families.

With giant toy soldiers bookends, The Mistletoe Holiday Shoppe is open  10-5 Tuesday through Thursday, 10-4 Friday and 9-1 Saturday.
