Jason Adams' Dream on Creative Wins TELLY Award

Jason Adams and his company Dream On Creative have won a TELLY Award for creation of the "Awake Exec" video, produced for Charleston-based author Emily Bennington's professional women training series.

"This is the first time we've been directly awarded a TELLY," said Adams, who serves as director and cinematographer for Dream On Creative, established in 2007. "I love creating art for a living and it's really nice to have peers in the industry say that our work is something worthy of award."

Adams said the piece evoked public attention and features some unique elements.

"I think people might have responded to the style. It was shot in black and white and  had a little bit different feel to it," he said. "The video racked up over 4,000 views on YouTube since it was put up a couple months ago. People seem to be responding really well to it."

The video production company works with a diverse mix of clients, including businesses, organizations and ad agencies. Work ranges from country music video production to hospital commercials. Dream On Creative was involved in the Telly award-winning Mon General Hospital commercial, featuring West Virginia-born Olympic champion gymnast, Mary Lou Retton. On the project, he collaborated with Inneraction Media.

"They wrote the scripts and creative and hired us to create the commercials," Adams said.

The "Awake Exec" video is a result of long time collaboration with Bennington, a Charleston native.

"She wrote the fantastic voice over and gave me a lot of creative space to create something a bit different," Adams said. "I love collaborating with people that dare to do something original."

Currently, Adams is working on a hospital commercial to be aired in the Washington, DC market and is involved in the production of the Davisson Brothers music video.

Dream On Creative does work in various states and even abroad on once occasion.

"It's cool to be honored for work done in West Virginia because so much of my work is done out of state," he said.

Doing what he loves is reward in itself, but a shiny trophy - one received for international recognition - is truly a nice perk, Adams said.

Adams is a 1999 graduate of Bridgeport High School, where he was involved in photo journalism.

"I never went to college. (BHS journalism teacher) Alice Rowe is the only form of formal education I've had with the arts," he said.

Following high school graduation, Adams' family relocated to Canton, Ohio, where he worked in the creative field; his experience heavy in the video production industry.

"I worked in the production department for a church, for a television station and then for a video production company," he said. "We moved back here in 2007 and I started this company because there weren't any video production companies to work for."

Adams said he has been overwhelmed by the community's response to his work.

"I have been blown away by the response to the videos and productions we create," he said. "This award is just another small confirmation that setting up shop in Bridgeport and collaborating with West Virginia businesses was the right move."

Adams continues his mission to get his clients noticed by creating a video message that stands out among the rest.

His creative outlets also include his lifelong passion for music.

"I started playing drums when I was about seven years old. I took lessons from the legendary Jack Wolfe of North View," he said. "I also played the guitar."

Adams was a member of the BHS drumline for three years, playing under the direction of John Christian.

Currently, he plans drums for Lifepointe Worship Band and has done a couple of shows with the South Mountain Soul.

He and his wife Kimberly are the parents of one daughter, Zoe.
