Jeremy Simons paints massive abstract murals at Bridgeport churches and others across the county. Often times, his poetic paint strokes are accompanied by the inspirational music of his wife Lydia and her band, “The Amorous.” But the scope of the united ministry is much broader than many might think.

The band’s circuit has expanded to include much of the U.S. and as many as 150 shows per year. Simons often accompanies the musicians and when he’s not with them, he’s touring the nation with well-known contemporary Christian artists Todd Agnew, Big Daddy Weave and DecembeRadio.

It’s a niche he’s found in the ministry which started more than eight years ago with someone of a personal prophesy.

“I got started by having dreams about it,” he said. “That’s how I got the idea.”

With a splash of paint here and there, the picture comes together quickly for those who strive to see it – much like the gospel itself.

Finished paintings hang in churches across the region as a keepsake of Simons’ ministry through the arts.

This week, Jeremy and Lydia Simons celebrate 11 years of marriage. They’ve shared their times of elation and also devastation. Just a few years ago, they experienced a fire which claimed their home and all their furnishings. Their faith is strong, but that doesn’t mean it is never shaken.

“Just because I am a minister, it doesn’t make me immune to doubt sometimes,” he said. “I have my moments. I just try to live my life according to what Jesus says to do: Love the Lord first, then others second. Love others before myself.”

Ironically, keeping himself out of the big picture enables him to help others see Christ.

“It’s hard to focus on what I don’t have. And as far as painting, that is just how I worship,” he said “Just as a musician or singer would worship with that gift, I use art. “

Simons truly believes everyone has a talent to share; one which can make a true difference.

“Some cook, write, sing, or even do construction,” he said. “I just believe we should do those things the best we can to honor our creator.”

It’s about a living worship that reaches others every day; everywhere.

“Worship of God is not confined to a church or temple, we are the temple and the earth is our sanctuary,” he said. “God is the greatest artist of all, and He gave us a wonderful world to admire. God is my inspiration. That’s why I paint.”
