Johnson Elementary PTA Hosts Family Night of Science; Features Dome Theater

Earlier this month, if you walked into the BHS auditorium, you might have wondered if aliens landed.  On the stage, there was a huge dome, inviting children and their families inside to learn all about outer space and other scientific concepts.  Don’t worry, it wasn’t aliens at all, it was Johnson Elementary PTA’s Family Science Night.

The Dome Theater is like a mini IMAX designed for multiple grade levels, featuring a total of 25 different programs including science, social studies, math, history, health and technology.   A topic was chosen for each grade level and students rotated through the Dome Theater for two days during the regular school day.  On Nov. 6, Johnson Elementary families were invited to be a part of the action as the school hosted Family Science Night.

“This program is one way the PTA uses its funds to integrate students and their families in an educational setting,” said PTA President Rose Rosanna.  “The programs in the evening were different that the ones the students participated in during the school day and it gave the families the opportunity to learn together in a unique setting.”
