By Chris Johnson on January 25, 2021 via Connect-Bridgeport.com

West Virginia Governor Jim Justice had some encouraging words in regard to the state's ongoing vaccination efforts during Monday's COVID-19 response press conference.

West Virginia continues to be the nation's leader when it comes to vaccine distribution and as of today the percent of distribution has exceeded 100 percent.

"I know you are thinking, how in the world can we have a number higher than 100 percent, how can we give out more than we have," Justice said.

Justice said there has been additional dosages able to pulled out of some of the viles and that is the reason for the additional six percent.

The governor said 166,358 of the state's first doses and 40,250 of the state's second doses have been administered. So far in the state, 73,751 residents 65 and older have received first-round dosages.

On Monday morning, West Virginia became the first state in the country to launch a pre-register system for the vaccinations. Justice said it is important to remember this is a pre-registration process.

"This cost the state $700,000 and we did it to make it more convenient," Justice said. "I'm excited to have this in place so people aren't out there dialing and dialing."

The website to pre-register can be found HERE

The state's vaccine info hotline number is 1-833-734-0965

West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources Secretary said more than 40,000 residents had already pre-registered as of the time of the press conference.

In conjunction with the Operation Save Our Wisdom initiative there will be 17 community vaccination clinics in 17 different counties, including Harrison. Next week, there will be a community clinic in all 55 counties and dosages will be based on each county's population.

At the start of the briefing, Justice offered his condolences to the families of the most recent deaths associated with the coronavirus. There have been 51 since his previous press conference last Thursday bringing the state's total to 1,899.

"Everyone of these people is not a statistic, they have a name and they have families," Justice said. "Please keep them in your prayers."

According to Monday morning's updated stats by the DHHR, there were 532 new cases reported during the last 24 hours, the state's cumulative positive rate is 5.57, while the daily percent positive rate is 8.43.

There are 24,365 active cases and there have been 89,575 total recoveries. As of Jan. 24 there are 597 hospitalizations with 151 in ICU.

The state's RT number is 0.87 which is the fourth best in the nation.

On the daily county alert system map Harrison County remains orange. There are 15 counties still in the red.

"Our numbers are better in a lot of ways," Justice said.

Currently there are 86 outbreaks in the state's long-term care facilities, six in churches in five different counties and 261 among inmates and 31 staff members in correctional facilites.
