This year’s Challenger 5K Race - one of several Benedum Festival feature events - will include competition for pint-sized runners.

Competitors age 8 and under are invited to take part in a Kids’ Dash, to take place between the 5K run/walk and the awards ceremony.

“It’s pretty informal. We’re just trying to see what kind of interest we have for it,” said Christa Randolph, organizer. “As the (5K) runners start finishing up, we’ll split the kids in little age groups and let them race.”

Age divisions will depend upon number and age of participants. There’s no need for pre-registration for the Kids' Dash, Randolph said. There is no fee for participation and all competitors will receive water bottles.

Randolph asks that those wanting to compete arrive at Wayne Jamison Track and Field Complex no later than 9 a.m. Saturday.

Depending upon interest, the Kids’ Dash may be expanded for next year’s 5K event, Randolph said.

Age divisions for the main 5K event are 9 and under, 10-14, 15-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69 and 70/over.  For more information on the 5K, click HERE
