The Lady Indians moved to a 4-0 record Monday with a win over the Lady Mohigans of Morgantown.

Since John Reese’s tenure as head coach, that’s a first time occurrence, he said. Goals by Amanda Saymon and Mikayla Oliverio put BHS up 2-0 at the half.

“Mikayla sent a beautiful pass to Amanda Saymon, who drilled the ball with her left foot past the keeper to put us up 1-0,” Reese said. “Five minutes later, Natalie Prater hit a long cross into the box. Mikayla took the ball out of the air, with a beautiful volley, making the score 2-0.”

As the second half got under way, the Lady Indians continued to put pressure on the Mohigans, but couldn’t find the net.

“Finally, Saymon found the back of the net, after receiving a pass from Prater,” Reese said. “It was Saymon’s second goal of the game and Prater’s second assist.”

Reese said his defense was also outstanding.

“Gina Marano, Jenna Alonge, McKenna Smith and Jordan Bush started for us and held an undefeated Morgantown team to three shots on goal,” he said. “Morgan Willis saved all three shots and came out of her box three or four times to stop Mohigan attacks.”

Overall, it was a total team effort responsible for the win, Reese said.

“Now we turn our attention to Fairmont Senior, who defeated us 1-0 last year in our place,” he said. “We would like to return the favor.”

Bridgeport plays at Fairmont Senior on Thursday. The boys start off the action at 6 p.m. with the girls' game following at 8 p.m.
