Lady Indians Stand at 20 and 1; Suffer First Loss of Season Against Ritchie County

Last Monday night, the Lady Indians beat Elkins 8-3, bringing their season record to 15-0. Danielle Dennison was key in the game which, due to inclement weather, was completed after six innings. On the mound, Dennison allowed only five hits and at the plate, she went three for three. Molly Layne also performed well at the plate, going three for four including a double.
 
Tuesday night, the winning action continued.  Buckhannon-Upshur fell to the Tribe’s perfect winning streak as pitcher Shae Tomasik gave up only one hit and BHS blanked the Bucs 8-0 after five innings of play on the Lady Indians’ home field. Among those leading batting efforts were Molly Layne and Joplin Kehrer.
 
The Lady Indians went on to beat Philip Barbour 11-1 after four innings of play. Hannah Clark contributed both a double and a triple and three runs. Alison Winans picked up the win, striking out four and contributing five hits for the Lady Indians. Ware also had a good game, going three for three with a pair of RBIs.
 
Thursday, the Lady Indians suffered their first loss in Ritchie County as the Rebels held them to only one run in the five-inning game. The final score was 9-1. The Rebels’ secret weapon, Lopez said, was Kenna DeLancey , who was definitely on her A game both on the mound and at the plate. For Bridgeport, Molly Layne and Allison Winans had good offensive efforts.
 
Friday, the Lady Indians found themselves back on top as they defeated East Fairmont in a double header played at Bridgeport Middle School.
 
In the first game, BHS won 9-1 over the Bees as pitcher Shae Tomasik gave up just three hits and struck out four. At the plate, Megan Ware and Danielle Dennison were both two for three and Alison Winans was two for four.
 
In the second game, it was BHS 8-East Fairmont 3 as the Lady Indians came from behind to claim the victory. Pitcher Danielle Dennison struck out 10 and gave up only three hits for the win. At the plate, Molly Layne went two for three with a double and Taylor Smith went two for four. Hannah Clark contributed a triple.
 
On Saturday, the Lady Indians were again victorious, defeating Grafton 5-0. Alison Winans picked up the win, giving up just four hits and striking out five. At the plate, Taylor Smith went three for three, molly Layne two for four and Caty Dennison two for three.
 
The Lady Indians face the Bearcats again today, this time on their home field at Bridgeport Middle School.
