Landyn Hewitt and Grant DuVall Named Students of the Month for January

Bridgeport High School Principal Mark DeFazio has announced that Students of the Month for January are Landyn Hewitt and Grant DuVall. 
 
Hewitt is the daughter of Aaron and Lisa Hewitt. Sthe attends Living Water Church in Bridgeport and is an active member in the children's ministries and aids in the worship service.
 
She has played an active role in Student Council as an executive board member throughout high school. Currently, she holds a student body officer position for membership. Hewitt is a member of National Honor Society and continues to do community service through the program. She has received a lamp and two letters in academics. She also received a varsity letter in swimming for her particpiation on the BHS Swim team for two years.
 
Hewitt plans to attend West Virginia University in the fall to study medicine and become a physician's assistant. 
 
DuVall is the son of Thomas and Michelle DuVall. He is a member of the Humane Society Club, Key Club, Tri-M Music Honor Society, Drug-Free Club and vice president of National Honor Society. He has been a member of the BHS cross country and tennis teams all four years, serving as captain of the tennis team his junior and senior years. 
 
DuVall has maintained a spot on the perfect honor roll throughout his four years, was a member of the 2016 State Honor Jazz Band, member of three state title-winning sports teams and has been a participant in honor bands including first chair All-County Band and first chair WVU Honor Band. Starting his sophomore year, he has worked as a team leader at Meadowbrook Mall Chick-fil-A, along with teaching youth tennis clinics at Simpson Elementary School and Brideport Parks & Recreation summer tennis camps. He is actively involved in Young Life, a youth ministry program, and a member of Bridgeport United Methodist Church. He is the head author of a published psychological poster on the study of gender differences in micro facial expression reccognition, presented at the 12th Annual Lamar Education Research Conference in Beaumont, Texas. DuVall attended a neuropsychology practicum with Disney & Assoc. in Lake Charles, La. While there, he assisted in the development of a hospital stimulator program to test patients' cognitivie impairment. He plans on attending WVU to receive a degree in biology and go on to medical school to become a neurosurgeon.
