David James Burton, age 79, of Maysville, WV and formerly of Marion County, WV, went to be with our Lord on Thursday, June 1, 2023 at his home. He was born on February 6, 1944, the son of the late Rev. Calvin Sherman and Betty E. (Endress) Burton. On July 20, 2002 Dave married Twila Burton who preceded him in death on December 11, 2020.

Dave was a 1962 graduate of Farmington High School, served our country in the U.S. Navy, and began his career working for James Chevrolet in Mannington, WV. He later became District Manager for K-Mart/Sears Corporation where he was responsible for the opening and closing of stores all over the east coast, District Manager for Penske and Exide Batteries, and a Parts Manager for Water Front Jeep in Morgantown, WV. Dave was a very organized man, who was meticulous in all his work, helping him excel both at work and in life.

Upon retirement in 2006, Dave and Twila moved to Maysville, WV where the couple remained busy, dividing their time between WV and becoming snowbirds in FL. He was a member of Crossway Baptist Church in Ft. Myers, FL and Harmony Baptist Church in Maysville, WV, where he played the piano for both churches, served as Trustee, and Delegate for Eastern Association of the WV Baptist Convention. Dave also attended Winkler Road Baptist Church in Fort Myers, FL. He was a part time employee of the Basagic Funeral Home and a member and former president of the Petersburg Lions Club where he received the Leonard Jarrett Award and was instrumental in the establishment of the breakfast program that has donated thousands of breakfasts over the years to 4-H students at the Tri-County Fair. In his down time, Dave could be found on the golf course, volunteering at the Lions Club, or practicing and playing the piano at church. Never idle, Dave will be remembered as a generous and giving man both of his time and energy to anyone in need, especially to his family.

Dave is survived by: 4 sons, David Burton, Jr. (Laura Goebel) of Howell, NJ, Mike Burton of Browns Mills, NJ; Morgan M. Basagic (Jessica) of Franklin, WV, Neil J. Basagic (Taylor Yokum) of Petersburg, WV; 2 sisters, Sharon Lilly (Lee) of Geneva, OH, Judy Boggess (Denver) of Farmington, WV; a brother, Phillip Burton (Rebecca) of Fairmont, WV; 4 grandchildren, Danny Ryan, Bryce, Tinley, Sawyer Basagic; and several nieces and nephews.

Family will receive friends on Wednesday, June 7, 2023, 5-7 PM at the Basagic Funeral Home, Petersburg, WV. Dave's family will also receive friends on Friday, June 9, 2023 12-2 PM at the Masters Funeral Home in Mannington, WV. Funeral services will follow at 2:00 PM, with Pastor Gary Crislip officiating. Interment will be in the View Point Cemetery, Mannington, WV. Although Dave appreciated the beauty of flowers, his wishes as well as his family's, would be to make memorial contributions to his beloved Harmony Baptist Church, POB 205 Maysville, WV 26833 or to the Petersburg Lions Club c/o Roger sites, 201 Central Ave Petersburg, WV 26847.
