The Bridgeport Lions Club will have a ceremony at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the Bridgeport City Park Playground where the organization will dedicate an addition to playground in honor of longtime Lion Bob Allen.

The new piece of equipment will be a “special needs” swing.

“We had talked about doing a piece of playground equipment and my husband Jeff said, ‘What about something for those with physical disabilities?’” Lion Charlene Smythe said. “And that got the ball rolling.

“It could also be used for a mother and child wanting to swing together and it is for those with disabilities so they can have fun just like any other child.”

Smythe said the dedication in honor of Allen is just a small token of appreciation for everything he has done for the Club and the community.
“Bob Allen is just so caring about the community and Lions Club what Lions Club stands for,” she said.  “Our motto is, ‘We Care’ and he truly does care by all the hours and years and everything he has put into every activity.

“He knows that it helps our community no matter if it is Bridgeport or Harrison county. It’s always for the betterment of our community.”

A photo gallery of the ceremony will be available on Connect-Bridgeport in the upcoming days after the event.
