With interviews just winding up Monday, the position of Bridgeport Middle School assistant principal may be filled at tonight’s meeting of the Harrison County Board of Education.

Superintendent of Harrison County Schools Dr. Mark Manchin said he will make a recommendation to the board from the field of 18 candidates who applied for the position. As of late Monday evening, he said the board was not yet releasing the name of the individual to be recommended.

The assistant principal position became available when Dave Mazza, who has served in that capacity for the past eight years, was named the new principal of BMS at the July 14 meeting of the Harrison County Board of Education. Mazza takes the place of Carole Crawford, who after serving as BMS principal for 13 years, took the position of supervisor of personnel for Harrison County Schools. Crawford assumed her new position July 17.

Mazza and assistant principal will hit the ground running as administration has already returned for the new school year. The first day of class for students is Aug. 15.

Tonight's BOE meeting starts at 6 p.m. and will be held at the board's new facility on Main Street, Clarksburg.
