A nearly half a million-dollar pickleball court project taking place in Clarksburg should be completed next week.

 

This past week, the City Parks of Clarksburg posted an update on the $450,000-plus project on social media. The new courts are being put in place at the Veteran’s Administration (VA) Park.

 

At this point, as final parts of the project are being handled, Clarksburg Parks officials are asking the community members to avoid going on the courts until the project is complete. And much of the project is wrapped up.

 

The new courts will be located in the same spot at the former tennis courts in an area situated just below and just behind Clarksburg municipal pool facility. The project began under former Clarksburg Parks Director John Cooper and being carried through under current Director and Bridgeport resident Doug Comer.

 

Comer said there will be nine permanent pickleball courts and a multipurpose court for both tennis and two pickleball courts. The project is being handled through a 50-50 grant with the Land and Water Conservation Fund program. Comer said the rest is earmarked through Clarksburg and Harrison County funds.

 

The new courts could eventually be used in tandem with the soon-to-be-built courts at Hinkle and Deegan Lakes. Comer said he has talked with officials with Bridgeport Parks and Recreation about doing an outdoor tournament or perhaps a series of tournaments involving outdoor courts in both cities

 

Thrasher Engineering and their project manager Jeff Gola is working on Clarksburg City Parks project. The contractor is Monco Constructors out of Barrackville.
