Members of Bridgeport Boy Scout Troop 40 were on hand at the Monday, March 11, Bridgeport City Council meeting to listen to what was going on, and handle one official matter of business.

The members of the Troop, who along with their Scout leaders, took up the first two rows in Council Chambers. The members then got up to lead City Council in the Pledge of Allegiance. The group advanced to the front of the Council podium where they began the Pledge just after the invocation was given by Bridgeport Director of Emergency Management Tim Curry.

Unlike many youth groups that come to Coucil meetings for specific items on the agenda, the Troop 40 members stayed for the duration of the meeting.

Bridgeport Mayor Andy Lang, as well as several other members of Council, thanked them for their efforts with the pledge and for staying to listen. Lang, in particular, talked about how important it was for them to see how government works at the local level where every dollar is accounted for community and city use.

"This is real government. This is where taxes earned by your family, and hopefully yours in the future, are allocated for things used in the city," said Lang, who cited several examples of how decisions are made that impact quality of life in Bridgeport.
