Monday's Council Meeting to Deal with Urban Deer Hunt, Facade Improvement Grants for City Businesses

Bridgeport City Council meets Monday with a handful of business items to be addressed. The first is an item of unfinished business: The second and final reading of an ordinance making a slight change in the city’s urban deer hunt.

Prior to the first reading at Council’s last meeting, Mayor Andy Lang explained that the city had received several requests for Sunday hunting, which had already been approved on the state level. The new ordinance, if approved, will allow approved urban deer hunters to hunt on Sundays if the property owner approves.

Under new business, Council will consider and act on Bridgeport Development Authority’s recommendations for façade improvement grants for two city businesses. Those businesses, said Community Development Director Andrea Kerr, are J5, LLC and Bridgeport Physical Therapy Services.

J5, LLC is applying for city funds to improve its overall East Main Street property, which is being developed into either retail or rental property, Kerr said. Bridgeport Physical Therapy's facade improvement project encompasses power washing and painting, as well as replacing columns and making improvements to the sidewalk and curb.

The final item of business slated for Monday is the authorization to hire a new emergency services director for the city. Laura Pysz, who previously held the position, was recently hired to head up Harrison County’s office of emergency management.

Council will also hear reports by Mayor Lang and City Manager Kim Haws and take care of any budget revisions which become necessary.

The meeting will open with prayer by Pastor Robin Ray of Bridgeport Presbyterian Church, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance. As always, the meeting is open to the public. It begins at 7 p.m. in City Council Chambers at Bridgeport Municipal Building. The meeting will be preceded by a 6 p.m. work session which according to Lang will involve some miscellaneous discussion. It's likely, Lang said, that Council will enter into executive session following the regular meeting to discuss matters relating to the forthcoming indoor sports complex.
