Morgantown Airport Runway Extension Project Opposed by NCWV Airport Gets Support from WVU

A project that members of the Benedum Airport Authority - the governing body of the North Central West Virginia Airport - had opposition to that was led by member Mike Romano is still moving ahead, according to WBOY.

The news station is reporting that  the Morgantown Municipal Airport is still on track to extend it's runway by more than one thousand feet.

"We still hope to get the majority of the work from the Air Force Reserve," said Glen Kelly, the Interim Airport Director. "As we found when we met with them, they can do things that we didn't even realize, like construct hangars, pave, move navigational aids, do the lighting for an air field. Because that's what they do, that's in their training for their war time mission."

The next step for the extension project is to get the Environmental Assessment and design to be approved by the FAA.

West Virginia University has already helped the project, paying for the benefit cost analysis. President Gordon Gee and Ron Justice said they will continue to support the extension project.
